~~~ What is RangerZ? ~~~ Ranger™ is a highly configurable strategy-building software. Its developer, Robert Pardo, is known as the inventor of Walk-Forward Analysis, a methodology that has become the standard of analyzing trading systems. Over the course of his career, Pardo developed algorithmic trading strategies for major institutions and trading firms. Ranger builds on that experience. The name 'Ranger' is derived from Donchian's classic 'range breakout' approach. But Ranger goes far beyond it with proprietary trend filters, volatility filters, entry filters, different order types, and a versatile set of exit and position-management rules. By combining different entry methods, indicators, and filters, Ranger can build thousands of uncorrelated strategies in trend agnostic, counter trend, trend neutral, and trend following modes - for CFDs, ETFs, futures, crypto, and stocks on intraday and daily time frames. The best of them can be combined in a portfolio that survives all market situations. RangerZ is the Ranger implementation in the C++ programming language. Its complete source code is available for modifying or studying the system. While the original Ranger runs on the TradeStation™ platform, RangerZ runs on the Zorro platform. It combines the best of both worlds: the proven long-term performance of Ranger strategies with the speed and versatility of Zorro. Trading logic, strategy components, indicators, parameters, and variables are identical in Ranger and RangerZ. But there are several differences: - RangerZ was written in C++. Backtests and optimizations run
multiple times
faster.
Ranger strategy portfolios have been consistently profitable. For details and backtest performances, please see Robert Pardo's Ranger page and the Ranger Alpha page. Note that Pardo's Ranger portfolios were put together with a different process, contain different strategies, and yield different equity curves than RangerZ strategy portfolios. The implementation story can be found on Financial Hacker. RangerZ comes with an asset list and a basic portfolio of 11 strategies for indexes, gold, and bitcoin. The separately available Apex portfolios contain 16 resp. 32 top strategies for less drawdown and increased annual return. Further portfolios or assets lists for other markets can be freely created by the user; a tutorial is included. Any asset can be simultaneously traded on 60 minutes, 4 hours, and daily time frames.
* Average annual profit divided by maximum adjusted drawdown plus maximum allocated margin (see performance parameters). Walk-forward analysis with a simulated FXCMâ„¢ CFD account. All trades with minimum size (1 lot) and no profit reinvestment. Suggested initial capital based on expected drawdown and margin. Spreads and trading costs as of June 2026. Values can deviate dependent on trading costs and test period. Annual returns on 100:1 leverage accounts are mainly dependent on maximum drawdown and can therefore strongly fluctuate. Please note: Strategies generated with
evaluation processes are subject to selection bias. The RangerZ portfolios were created with
the Evaluation Shell,
not with Robert Pardo's RangerMakerâ„¢ software or his evaluation
process (formerly
named "The Pardo Proprietary Development Process" and now "Excalibur Development Process"),
which was used for the original Ranger strategy portfolios by Pardo &
Company. The Evaluation Shell and the RangerZ portfolios are products by oP
group Germany GmbH and in no
way connected to, licensed, endorsed,
approved, or reviewed by Robert Pardo or Pardo & Company.
